One Dish Away Blog Stats!

Hiya lovelies!

I’m doing something a little different today and opening up about my earnings, views and goals for this little blog of mine. I love sharing my life with you all, and this blog plays a big part in it as you know. Because of that, I wanted to share these stats to stay as transparent and genuine as possible when it comes to all things to do with this blog! And what better time to do it than at the 20k mark!!

….And no, that’s not $20,000 mark unfortunately! (Though I wish it were!).

It means I hit 20,000 page views for the year so far! YAYYY! Technically it happened sometime between Friday and Saturday I think, so I’m a little over that mark today :).

The total breakdown of page views for the year so far is:

  • January: 4,762
  • February: 3,999
  • March: 5,265
  • April: 5,062
  • May (so far): 1,179

To big bloggers, this is small fry stuff. I know some that have a MILLION hits per month. I can’t even fathom that! To me, 20,000 views is already really BIG news. To put it in perspective, last year for the whole 12 months last year I had a total of 33,190 page views. To already be hitting 20,000 in May this year means I must be doing something right and I’m on track to my goal of doubling my page views from last year!

Now, for some questions that I am sometimes asked and I want you all to know the answers to, because they may surprise you!

Sort of. If you call a balance of $28.50 an income, haha!

I use Google Adsense for advertising, and you may have noticed the various ads they’ve chosen around my blog pages/posts. I hope they don’t annoy you too much, I’ve done my best to choose locations that aren’t too interfering and I chose a minimal amount of them too.

I’m no marketing whiz, and I’ll be honest when I say I don’t really know the ins and outs of how the income is calculated. Some days I get nothing, other days I get a few dollars. That $28.50 is from July 2015 to now by the way, so that’s my total income for the last 8 months. Monthly, that averages out to be just over $3.50 per month. I know, I am cashed up. Please, don’t be jealous of my glamorous blogging life! ;)

Nope, I currently earn 0 dollars from my product/cafe/restaurant reviews. Most of the cafe/restaurant/accommodation reviews I do are just from my own visits to them. In the past, I’ve also been invited to some places to do a review, but I always disclosed that I got my meals for free, and that I didn’t get paidI also do the occasional product reviews where companies send me their products to try out. All of the ones I have done so far have been unpaid too, I simply received the products for free. (Example is the HIIT BOX review I did).

Will this change in the future? Possibly! I mean, it would be nice to get paid for reviews and things like that as they do take a while for me to do (take photos, actually trial the product/s so I can give you my thoughts, edit the photos and write the post). I still have to work out the logistics of that though, i.e What is my time worth? What would I charge? How many readers do I need before I can start charging? Etc.

I do want to reiterate though that regardless of payment or not, opinions in all reviews will still be my own. You couldn’t pay me enough to recommend something I know is totally shitty (excuse the language) to people. I refuse to become a “sell out” and advertise and recommend crap products to my readers just because I got paid to. I’d rather not get paid and stay honest!

Short term (in the next 3 months): I hope to bring back my newsletters (sorry guys, I know it’s been a while since I’ve sent one because life has been crazy busy) and increase my subscriber list to 100. I’m at 60 at the moment :).

Medium (by the end of the year): I hope to reach my goal of doubling my readership from last year.

Next year’s goals: I hope to have an eBook series, course or program on the blog up and running!! I have yet to decide what exactly I want to talk about (I always have too many things I want to talk about), and once I can settle on an idea, I shall start creating! It’s a while away yet, but I’m excited! I also hope to have enough of a readership to be able to sell advertising space on my blog or charge for my reviews etc. Everything I pour into the blog comes out of my own pocket (hosting fees, design costs, ingredients and props for recipes etc), and it would be great to earn just enough to help cover my costs. It’s been especially hard lately with just one of us working, so to have a bit of extra money coming in would be really great to help keep this blog growing!

So that’s it so far!

I hope you enjoyed this little insight into the blog!

Questions for you!
