Bagels. Oh bagels.
Prior to today, I had never tasted one. But I’d always wanted to. I remember when I was growing up, I would read books about people that lived in NYC and ate bagels filled with cream cheese and would drool at the thought. You can’t half tell I’ve always been a bread and pastry fan, can you? I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to try one actually. And today I hadn’t even intended to! It just so happened I was heading out to the Chai Laneway Market in Ryde today to taste test me some beautiful spiced teas, and there it was. In all it’s glory. The Brooklyn Boy Bagels stand. Like a delicious, shining beacon amidst all the tea stalls. I have been following their Instagram page for the last month now, and their bagels were on my “to try” list. And here it was just waiting for me, so unexpectedly but so very welcoming. I had a chat with Michael, the man behind the stall and the business, and he was just so lovely. And the bagels were even lovelier! I settled for a sesame seed bagel filled with herbed cream cheese for my lunch, and a couple of mini raisin and cinnamon ones to take home to the boyfriend. My bagel was seriously divine. Exactly how I imagined a bagel would taste like. I was one happy girl today! So if you’re a bagel fan, or even if you’re not (trust me, you will be after having a Brooklyn Boy Bagel), please do yourself a favour and grab a bagel from them if you’re a Sydney-dweller. And while you’re there, grab another one. You’ll need it!
They sell their bready delights at a few cafes and markets around town, and the full list can be found by clicking here if you’re interested!
Besides the bagels, I also made two other purchases for the day and they came from the Foxi stand, a new local Aussie business which made it’s debut today. The founders were so happy and cheerful, I couldn’t walk past their stand without stopping for a chat, photo and taste test! The boyfriend is a lover of iced coffees and teas, so I grabbed him one of their delicious iced chai teas. They were also selling Inside Out cold pressed almond milks, so I nabbed myself a litre bottle as a treat! I honestly had such a great day today. It wasn’t just that I got to taste test a bunch of different things (although that’s always going to be a bonus in my eyes), it was that being in a market filled with local and small businesses like this allowed me to meet the faces and creative minds behind the products as well. I think that’s something quite special, and it just makes the whole experience that much better!
I’m already on the look out for my next market adventure! I can’t wait!
