It’s the last day of our 12 Days of Feel Good Eating and I admittedly did not feel well today. Not because of the actual feel good eating, that actually went really well and I’ll do a proper recap of the experience tomorrow. But I felt unwell because I’ve been fighting off a head cold since yesterday and today I woke up feeling like I had not slept a wink. And to top it off, I knew I had a big day ahead of me. I’m throwing my mumma bear a birthday dinner tomorrow, and I needed to buy some supplies, clean the apartment, head off to work for the afternoon, then come home and prep some food. I had no idea how I was going to get through it all.
To give myself a bit of a pick me up, we stopped in at a small cafe to grab a bite to eat whilst supply shopping. We both ordered the big breakfast sans bread, so eggs, bacon, a kransky, avo, asparagus, herb tomato, mushrooms, mixed greens and a hash brown. It was massive, but so delicious. I devoured it! I also got their iced dutch coffee, which was really nice, but I have to admit, I did miss having a nice, warm and creamy coffee. When we got home, I got cracking on the housework and got most of the big stuff done, leaving a few things for Jared to take care of tomorrow while I was at work.
Lunch was kept really simple as I didn’t have much time before work and I was fairly tired. Jared cooked up a couple of scotch fillet steaks while I made a quick salad of organic kale massaged in EVOO and ACV, tomato, cucumber, grated beetroot and a side of sauerkraut. I didn’t have much of an appetite though, so I only ate about half the steak and salad and popped the rest in a container to take to work with me with the intention of having it as my snack. I didn’t actually end up eating it though, I ended up just keeping it for Jared to have for lunch tomorrow. I just didn’t feel like it to be honest. In fact, all I felt like was a big block of rum and raisin chocolate. But instead of succumbing to that craving, I got myself a Bounce Superberry Vitality Burst protein ball instead. I’m lucky enough to work near a deli/health food store/cafe, so I also picked up our weekly eggs and a litre bottle of Nudie juice to have tonight instead of wine. We’re addicted to it now since having it as a wine replacement last weekend, and I’m so glad it’s a good addiction!
My shift ended up going for longer than expected, so I was even more tired by the time I got home. But I was determined to get some more things done. I got my pork belly marinated and refrigerated for tomorrow’s dinner, got a big pot of chicken soup on the stove for a nourishing dinner tonight (second time this week – and each time it has been so soul and body soothing, so I promise I’ll post the recipe soon!) and got baking on my mumma’s birthday cake.It was my first time making a cheesecake from scratch, so I was nervous. But things seemed to be going well… Until I realised there was smoke coming from the oven. So I opened the oven door to check and our entire kitchen started to fill with smoke! It was just my luck, I tell you!! We couldn’t figure out what it was as the cheesecake looked perfect and not in the slightest bit burnt (so there was a positive after all!). We had to just turn everything off, put the half cooked cheesecake into the fridge, and Jared will have check it all out tomorrow.
After that whole debacle, I was just happy to finally get into my PJ’s, scoop myself a gigantic bowl of chicken soup and put Anchorman on. I felt better instantly.
I’m currently sipping on some herbal tea, curled up on the couch, sniffling, but happy to not anything to worry about now. I survived my long day, and I’m proud I got through it and achieved all the things I wanted! Now to rest up for an even bigger day tomorrow!
