New Running Milestone

Whaaat? A third post this week? With another to come tomorrow as well?! This is the most I’ve blogged in quite some time and I’m really enjoying it. I would like to thank this new laptop, morning coffees and in today’s case, flaky pastries, for making these daily blogging sessions possible!

Before I head off to work, I just wanted to share yesterday’s run with you! I did it, you guys! I hit the 5km mark!! I know that probably sounds minuscule to seasoned runners, but for me this is big news. I can’t remember the last time I hit that mark. A year ago, maybe two? Who knows?

After my hilarious and really unfortunate run on Monday, it felt really damn good to get back out there and kick ass. I don’t know if it was because the weather was cooler, or because I had eaten well enough, or I was better hydrated, or maybe simply because the music was so good, but I just felt really great yesterday. I had planned for 3km, but after the first kilometer, I knew I could push further than 3.

If it wasn’t getting so dark by the end of my run, I think I could have possibly pushed for another kilometer (but I’m a wuss and hate running in the dark). It was such a confidence booster because I’ve been so unmotivated on my training the past week or so. To know that I do have it in me to keep pushing is a really great feeling.

I did it in just over 35 minutes. It’s not a racers time, by any means. But I am still so happy with myself for being able to just get to that distance, regardless of the time it took!

The sky really turned it up for me yesterday too. Watching the sun set and the sky change colours was pretty amazing.


The tunes from yesterday’s run were so good too! I had decided to put on Yellowcard as I hadn’t listened to them in a while, and YouTube took me down a vortex of awesome songs from my angsty punk rock years.

I came home, sweaty faced, happy and cuddled with my kitten. (It was more like “come here kitty and love me pleeeease!”).


This morning (as I’m typing this post up actually), I had a soy latte and really delicious eggplant, spinach, chickpea and feta “sausage roll” (can you still call it a sausage roll if there’s no meat in it? The big questions in life….) at Bourke St Bakery to treat myself. Please don’t mistake this as “I ran 5km, so that means I can eat something unhealthy now as a reward.” I thought about what makes me happy, and of course coffee and pastries popped up (no surprises there). And so that’s exactly what I treated myself to. (Side note: I actually don’t view this sausage roll as unhealthy by the way, I think of it as a delicious treat. A healthy mindset towards food is much more important than dividing everything into just healthy and unhealthy).

Also, Sydney-siders, are you feeling the chill in the mornings yet? I am so sensitive to the cold. It’s only approaching the end of March, and I am already decked out in my scarf and coat in the mornings. 15 degrees is too cold. Again, I’m a wuss.


Tonight I’m spending the night stretching, foam rolling and relaxing with Jared and the kitty, no running planned for today (even though I’m itching to get back out there!). I have to remind myself that resting is just as important as running, so I’m forcing myself to take a break tonight!
